It is an industrial standard for audio-visual equipment interconnection developed by French company peritel. It is also a mandatory requirement in Europe for interconnection of satellite TV receivers, TV sets, video recorders and other audio and video equipment. The standard SCART interface is a 21 pin connector with a right angle trapezoid shape, commonly known as "broom head".
